Here's a guy (most of) you guys need to know about

His name is Larry Guthrie, and he spreads God's Word via use of the bow and arrow. Here is his bio and home page, but the thing I think you'd find interesting is that he does a "William Tell-like" demo all over the US and around the world. (Thinking he told me he's done his demo in some 23 countries.)

    Here's the set-up: (pics below)

    Hitting the Mark -

Psalm 127 tells us that our children are like arrows in the hand of a mighty man. These arrows are intended to be cast forth to "Hit the Mark." Watch as Dr. Guthrie illustrates seven principles that govern the flight of an arrow and direct the path of our sons and daughters. He will pop seven balloons with his new Mathews compound bow, one balloon for each principle. In an exciting conclusion to the lesson he will attempt to "Hit the Mark" by shooting an apple off someone's head. The session will focus on key issues of parenting. Appropriate for all ages. (Note: No mothers, fathers, or children will be harmed in this demonstration.)

    Key Points

"As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are children of your youth." Psalm 127:4

(This is a quote from which the lesson originates.)

(The follow seven points are the ways we are like arrows)

Design: Accepting God's sovereignty as to the way He made me (Equipment)

Responsibility: Straightening up when I get bent out of shape (Spine)

Authority: Yielding to God given instruments to keep me in line (Fletchings)

Suffering: Allowing hard times to strengthen me (Practice)

Ownership: Letting go of the things I cannot keep (Release)

Purity: Remaining straight and sharp so that I can hit the mark (Broadheads)

Purpose: Focusing on God's will without distraction from the world (Aiming)

Finale: The following four points are for the finale when I attempt to shoot an arrow off someone’s’ head.

    Righteousness: Hitting the Mark

    Sin: Missing the Mark

Substitutionary Atonement: Christ is our substitute. The Cabbage represents Christ’s position. He is wounded for our transgressions when we miss the apple sitting on top of the head of cabbage. Yet He forgives us and allows us to shoot again and again and again.

Forgiveness: Accepting the hurt I feel and releasing my offender from punishment they deserve or the revenge I want
