Automated Red Light enforcement sucks!

From what I understand it is only a civil issue not criminal. My wife got one about 3 years ago and we got 2 notices in 1st 3 months, ignored both and nothing since then.

Yup... Just out to get your money... Kinda like a toll road... My taxes go to pay for roads... Then I also have to pay to drive on one.... No thanks.

That's big city living for ya though... Try to put one of those cameras in my home town or the small towns around here and they would spend more money replacing shot up cameras than theyd make on tickets.

It's a money grabbing scheme. Plain and simple. If they can show me a compilation of data proving that these cameras actually make streets safer then I will agree that they want to take your money for a legit reason, until then ill just say they are simply profit machines

We had cameras here in Lubbock. Not anymore. Citizens did not like them, city council voted them out. Supposed research on higher accidents due to people scared of tickets and slamming on the brakes.

Yup that sux but....it's better than a knock on the door, with a Travis County Sheriff standing there serving you divorce papers and you then find out....20 grand is gone from your bank account as well

You know that I know about those expensive (but worth it) divorces. And yes that V10 still can guzzle gas with the best of them. I probably spent $20 stepping on the gas trying to beat the red light just in gas alone. I was just behind the line when the light turned red.

I asked for my day in court. They dismissed it.

I'm tempted to do the same. Mostly for the principle of it to meet my accuser in court.

They suck! Mine was $150 in 2008 in Kenner! 18wheeler in front of me took forever to get through light went behind him to see it was red. Got my ticket in the mail 2 weeks later...

Got one about two weeks ago in round rock. Not the envelope I wanted my boss to see....

We voted those darn things out in Houston.

There's not really even any stastics out there that factually show that red light cameras make intersections safer. Actually the data is skewed all over the place. Some intersections in Houston actually showed increased acidents with the cameras.

Slipperly slope if you ask me. Most of these citations aren't even moving violoations. Makes you wonder...

That is correct, it is just a civil issue. Or at least at the bottom of the ticket, it says, "you are responsible for paying this civil penalty"

Yes I ran the red light and if a cop was there and saw me do it, I would have no problem with the ticket.

Sucks to open the mail to a $75 ticket.

Where were you at? Was it in Georgetown?

Nevermind, I just read your last post about the location. I was in RR the other day and saw the "Photo Enforced" sign at that intersection and wondered if it was real or just a bluff. I guess I know it is real now.

I've been driving through that intersection for 4 years and this is my first one. I'm surprised that I haven't received many during that time. I'm guessing in the past, I made it across the line before it turned red. This time I was just behind it but it was definitely visible on the video that the light turned red before I was in the intersection.

I could believe that, had an idiot woman make me hit her in the butt, because some friend of a friend told her it was illegal to run through a yellow light, needless to say a little car stops way quicker than a pickup when the brakes are immediately locked down.

Yea I saw that thread. I really don't want the facts because everything I've found says they make it safer and they see accidents at those intersection decrease. Now if she can dig out some facts showing that it contributes to more rear end collisions because people slam on their brakes at those intersections, I would be very appreciative.

The studies in Albuquerque proved that the scameras caused the intersections to be way more dangerous and only for profit. The scameras were booted out. Most of the people who where mailed tickets in the last year or so of the scam deposited the tickets where they belonged in the trash. About 6 million worth. The lying scamming scumbags from redflex are now trying to sue the good people that threw the scamera tickets in the trash.
