Question for the food plot people...

Did a soil test and had a ph of 7 and said No recommendations needed

Planting IC peas and soybean mixture... Do we need any fertilizer if it said no recommendations good to go?

You are a lucky man with that pH!

Even though your test says you are good....adding some nitrogen will help boost them right after germination. If you inoculate them they will make their own N but adding some urea will boost them at germination.

Did it tell you what your organic matter % was? It should have OM% somewhere on the test?

Stickem is going to go get the results from his car... We are going to innoculate them. 100 lbs IC peas, and 100 lbs of soybean for 2.1 acres...

Should we put a lil 13-13-13 or 10-20-10 on it? Say 100-150 lbs?

If it were me, I would supplement the soil with the higher nitrogen fertilizer. You may not need it, but 100-200lb/acre won't hurt. Might give you a better push down the road. Top growth is most important, so plenty of nitrogen is a good thing. Another option would be a 20-5-20.

          Unclefish -

below are the results ( He thought it was 7, looks like its 7.8 slightly alkaline).. What would you recommend as far as fertilizer per acre?

Definitely need some Nitrogen (urea)...its in the low category....unless you have a legume (clover, mesquite trees, etc..) growing on it now it probably should be low....something like a 46-0-0. Maybe 100 lbs per acre.....just enough to boost them out of the gate.

You can certainly use a triple 13 or triple 19 type fertilizer but there won't be as much N in those as pure Urea. If you are tilling before planting then till the fertilizer in before your plant. Nitrogen leaches very easily in the atmosphere so if you don't till it and it does not rain.....you just threw money away.

Your organic matter is important too. The higher the number the better. Yours could definitely improve...as could most everyones. Cover crops and no tilling helps that alot.

            Good luck!!!
