As we prepare for the upcoming holiday weekend, I felt like it was important write a little something. It's so easy to get sucked in the commercialism of holidays. Chocolate bunnies, pastel eggs, etc.
As Christians, the Easter holiday is most important to our faith. Jesus' death on the cross and his later resurrection changed EVERYTHING. Our salvation only comes through God's grace. I think that we must be reminded of his sacrifice. I grew up in church so I "got used" to hearing about Christ on the cross.
Here's the reality. It was horrible. Most men wouldn't have even survived the scourging. When he hung there, he was naked. In front of everyone, including his mother. He was punished, beaten, humiliated and murdered for US.
I, myself don't want to take that lightly. I want to live each day grateful for that sacrifice. I'm thankful for his resurrection and that one day, I will reign forever with him in his kingdom.
I encourage you this weekend to not lose sight of what it really means. Look past the eggs and look at the cross. Look past the pastels and candy to the rolled away stone.
Thank you Father for sending your Son. Thank you for providing that sacrifice for us. Thank you that not even death could defeat our Savior. Thank you for His resurrection and your promise to us of eternal life with you. I pray that you keep everyone safe this weekend. I pray that if there are people that need to know you that you touch their hearts and that they would know you and establish a relationship with you. Amen.
