    Anyone have any mechanic experience?

I need some help. I have an 02 ford f150 with a 4.2l v6. It's burning about 1.5-2 quarts of oil a week! There's no smoke coming out of the exhaust and that's confusing me. It's a standard and its starting to putter real bad at start up and starting to accelerate in first gear. The truck has 297*** miles. I'm thinking the rings are shot but the only thing that's confusing me is the lack of smoke coming outta the exhaust. Help! This is my personal work truck. If it can't work neither can I!!

Is that one of the modular series? If so, check the PCV valve. They are notorious for causing huge oil consumption in the V10s.

That's supposed to be on top of the valve cover right? If so, it's just a plastic 90, not a valve??

My coolant reservoir is low but the coolant is not yellow or green. Looks like dirty water.

But I can guarantee that the radiator has never been flushed

Could be the main seal in btwn the engine and tranny. Mines out on my sierra.

No leaks? By 300k I would expect a couple, and you may not always see a lot of oil drops, and still have a leak or two that gets blown off while driving. Also by that point I would expect the valve guides and rings to be suffering. It is possible that it can be burning oil without it smoking like a diesel. I doubt that it's going in the coolant, especially if it's low, and especially after losing that much oil per week. If the coolant is low, you should find out why because it could be a head gasket issue allowing both oil and water into the cylinder. I've never known the pcv to cause oil consumption in the 4.2. If it gets clogged it will cause pressure buildup and eventually cause leaks.

It would leak. It's not leaking! The only thing that could explain where the oil is goin is out my exhaust. How would it be getting in there? The truck cans sit for days and won't leak. Not blowing smoke.

Well it had leaks.... I fixed them. Is there any way for oil to get to the exhaust without going thru the cylinder?

If it is the head gasket do I need to have the head milled?
