Non Hunting thread!! Big Screen TV help

I am ready to move into the big screen world but talk about choices!!! Each store recommends something different too. I have it narrowed down to either a Plasma or DLP so I would like to hear from those who have one of those. Fairly dark room with some seating angles up to 45 degrees. I know the Plasma is better for angles but the Mitubishi DLP look fine from 45 degrees. Which to get??????

The DLP projections don't have much of a problem at all with side viewing angles, like the old projections had.

If you go with plasma, are you going to hang it on a wall, or put it on a stand? If you're not hanging it on the wall, go with the projection. Equal quality at a lower price.

I got the Pioneer Plasma and could not be any happier. I did a lot of research and decided on the Plasma for the color. I also have a lot of ambient light in the area were the TV is hanging.

I have the 52" Mitsubishi dlp and as far as the dlp choice it is the best one out there. Plasma is ok too.
Make sure you buy 1080p. By this time next year every thing is supposed to be broadcast in 1080p.
FRY'S has the best prices I have found on all of the big name brands.
        Good luck.

I have a Samsung 56" DLP and absolutely love it. It has great resolution, maintains high quality at almost all viewing angles and will save you a few hundred dollars over plasma. Nothing against Plasma at all, my brother has a 42" Panasonic plasma and I enjoy the picture on that as well.

I second the opinion on if you are not planning on hanging going with the DLP.

We have a 62" Mitsubishi HD LCD for our living room tv and love it. You can see the picture just fine at 45 degrees angles.

I have been researching this as well. According to the guys at Circuit CIty/Best Buy. The 1080p LCD tvs are the latest and best technology. I looked at a 40" Sony XBR and it was pretty sweet. They said the advantage the LCDs have over the plasmas is that in a well lighted room, you will get virtually no glare on the screen whereas a plasma you can see the lights and sunlight coming thru the windows glaring off of the screen. If this doesn't bother you or you are viewing in a room with low light or no windows, then the plasma would be the way to go. Definitely go with the 1080p high resolution.

DLP or LCD. Plasma does have a limited life regardless of what some people will tell you. Definitely go with the 1080P also.

My 50" Hitachi LCD is on its second bulb in under a year.
The fact that it stays on most of the day doesn't help.
The first year the bulb is covered under the manufacturer warranty.
After that your extended warranty (circuit city) picks up the tab on ONE bulb.
                  Then it's on you.
BTW, the bulb is $212 before shipping as per last nights net shopping.

Maybe my first bulb was a dud? (I hope)

Aside from that I LIKE it a lot.
