I hunted last year in Kansas in Unit 2 and went up there semi blind. This year I want to be more prepared by setting my stands early and using trail cams. My question is do any of y'all have experience using feeders up there? Also do you go automatic or free choice and what do you feed protein or corn? Any advise would be great.

Feeders might work in areas where row crops are few and far between.
Otherwise we’ve always spent a lot of mornings and evenings glassing winter wheat fields, and harvested bean and corn fields. Once the deer are patterned you can landmark the trails and hopefully a tree or ground blind site. Go in to place the stand around lunch time and stay out of there for a few days if possible. I recommend not driving in a 4 wheeler or a vehicle unfamiliar to the deer. In an area with lots of farming going on a spooked deer just has to change the pattern to another field and be perfectly OK.
While hunting, the key is to go in really early and stay late. Just stay out of there unless you’re going to or coming from the stand. Make it a habit not to walk in or touch things in the trail, you’ll get busted.
I have friends up there that have tried feeders but get fed up with the expense and hassle. Meanwhile the old rules above don’t change that much.
