Pilots make 75-90k after 3-5yrs,and captains are 100k+. You can also move shoreside and go the port captain (mgr for several vessels) route and get into management. Or you can also go to the cargo side and become a tankerman. Lots and lots of options for someone who is a hard worker and has an eye for the long term game plan.

    The marine industry gets very little attention, but it is one of the very few industries in which a non-degreed man can make very good money fairly quickly and still have a diverse career path long term.

    This is a great way to start and move up I worked as a deckhand in college and was started at 15/hr and that was about 7 years ago. Sure its higher now. Hours sucked we never worked sane schedule but pretty good money for my age and no education. Just prove your dependable, answer your phone when it rings and haul butt to the boat/tug. We had lots of overtime easy job half the time with spurts of hard work mixed in
