The three best places to eat in Mason are the Northside Cafe, Santos, and the Square Plate. Santos is open Thursday through Saturday. Order the brisket tacos and a side of queso. Best tex mex around.

If you have the time drive up to Fredricksburg and tour the WW II Pacific Theatre museum. Lots of good info on Admiral Nimitz as it's located in his childhood home. Additionally they recently opened the George Bush wing.

You could go to the Mason Square Museum. Theres exhibits for the Mason county war, the largest topaz in North America and all kinds of other info on the area. It's owned by Gene and Patsy Zesch. Gene is the guy that makes the old cowboy carvings like this one.
If anything it would be worth it just to talk to him and here some entertaining stories.

The Cooper's is owned by the original Cooper's family. It is the exact same style as the one in Llano thaty sold to Terry Wooten. I guess either of them have good days and bad. The last time I ate in Mason it was just as good as always. Go for the big chop. Quick and easy compared to Llano. let us know how it is. Beware, it is a completely different style than most Texas bbq. Some like it, others don't.
