    God Particle found

The long-theorized subatomic particle would explain why matter has mass and has been considered a missing cornerstone of physics.
Last July, scientists with the world's largest atom-smasher announced finding a particle they described as Higgs-like.

    A little background

This is kinda along the lines of proving evolution exists. Electrons, protons and neutrons all buzz around each other. Some clump to create different types of atoms. Elements are made of groups of atoms. We figured this out when we split the atom.

But how does a bunch of electrons eventually form mass? Somewhere along the line - energy becomes mass.

Researchers have observed a new, massive particle which they believe may be the Higgs boson.

OK - so what? Well this just might enable us to find ways to access new forms of energy. Fusion vs fission. We have been chasing cold fusion but have not gotten close. Basically fusion is when two particles are merged together and release energy. (Hydrogen fuel cells) Fission is when a large particle is split apart and releases energy. (nuclear energy)

But also proof of the God particle shows how this particle eventually becomes everything.

        Bout time they found it!

Watching some DVD's by John Heffner that is pretty interesting on things such as this. He relates how man is so far behind on things already revealed in scripture as in the years we discovered various things about the earth, universe, our bodies etc.

What will God allow us to do next!

Nothing that a theoretical physicist does can deny the existence of a creator. Stephan Hawking actually came out and said that there is no creator, and there is no afterlife. In another breath he and others have proved that the universe is filled with the fundamental building blocks of life. When certain conditions are met those building blocks of seemingly dead matter can form together and create life.
If by the design of a creator or not the entire series of processes and components is truly fascinating and probably a secret we shall all know one day.
Meanwhile, the discovery of the Higgs Boson particle has provided some probable answers but, will probably create more questions and fuel more searches to the riddle.

Seems to me that if you can trick the Higgs field with a virtual Higgs particle you could at some in the future actually change the weight of a product being shipped, carried, moved around the house and such.

Remember the antigravity devices in Star Trek?

Am I loopy on this or just generally loopy?

I find no conflict whatsoever between evolution and my Christianity.

Meanwhile, the physics stuff is absolutely fascinating, and I love reading about it.

Thanks a bunch for the links.

The cool thing is there were once huge trees all over this planet some 6' in diameter. People keep claiming things are getting bigger yet we have proof of much larger animals and trees etc. frozen in places that shouldn't have held life, many imbedded in limestone.

Other intesting thing is how such large beast had such small lung capacity (dinosaurs). We are just now learning the benefits of the hyperbolic chamber and increased oxygen's effect on humans etc.

Lots to study here no doubt.

No conflict whatsoever. Ones all about who and the others all about how.

My understanding is that the oxygen levels in the ancient past were so high that plants and animals were very large indeed. I suppose the lungs would have been more efficient although smaller in size.

I'm so lost.... Laymens terms please...

What did they find? Can I hunt it?

Basically they found the glue that holds everything together on a subatomic level

Seems like a monumental waste of time to me. Every answer they find creates 10 more questions.

How bout spending those un-told billions on cancer research...

Thats some awesome stuff. I could read it all day long. People need to realize there is a difference between science and religion and keep them separated. IMO
