The long-theorized subatomic particle would explain why matter has mass and has been considered a missing cornerstone of physics.
Last July, scientists with the world's largest atom-smasher announced finding a particle they described as Higgs-like.
A little background
This is kinda along the lines of proving evolution exists. Electrons, protons and neutrons all buzz around each other. Some clump to create different types of atoms. Elements are made of groups of atoms. We figured this out when we split the atom.
But how does a bunch of electrons eventually form mass? Somewhere along the line - energy becomes mass.
OK - so what? Well this just might enable us to find ways to access new forms of energy. Fusion vs fission. We have been chasing cold fusion but have not gotten close. Basically fusion is when two particles are merged together and release energy. (Hydrogen fuel cells) Fission is when a large particle is split apart and releases energy. (nuclear energy)
But also proof of the God particle shows how this particle eventually becomes everything.
