    State Basketball Tourney

Who is in, who will be there?

Idalou Wildcats are back for their 4th consecutive appearance. Every kid on this team has played in this tourney every year of their high school career, they don't know any different!

    Go Cats!

I am a proud Roughneck and was there to watch White Oak successfully defend last year's title!

One of the most incredible sports moments I have ever witnessed.

If you care to read on, here's a brief rundown.
WO lead most of the game. Brock kept battling and tied it and actually took the lead for a second in the 4th. WO was up 3 with a minute left and Brock hit a clutch 3 pointer to tie it up with 57 seconds left. White Oak got the ball into the hands of their 5'7" point guard, who took the ball across center court and stopped. Just stood there dribbling. Brock didn't come over to defend so he just stood there... dribbling while the whole place went nuts! With about 6 seconds left he took off. Juked his defender, ducked another and hit a running jumper from just inside the free-throw line! What a pressure shot for a 17 year old kid!
      ..... sorry... I'm still a little pumped!

Sad deal about Mumford. The UIL should be ashamed of itself for putting that AAA basketball factory from Dallas in 1A. Absolutely ridiculous.

Is this the one that was in Austin this weekend?

My wife, oldest daughter and a few of her friends went to support the Ft Bend William B Travis Tigers. They won on Friday night and then followed that with a win in the 5A championship game Saturday night.

It's nothing new, Strake Jesuit was there a few years ago, just a little different because they were 5a, same concept though... AAA definitely received their fair share of boos though

Absolutely ridiculous is RIGHT. I was in Austin for my 27th consecutive state tournament and I sent an email to the director of the UIL as soon as Mumford's defeat was over. AAA Academy is a joke and programs like it will be the demise of the UIL if action isn't taken.

The White Oak v. Brock game was a good one for the second year in a row. White Oak got their second 2A championship by defeating Brock again.

Roxton beat Texline in overtime in the semis and defeated Douglass in the final to win the 1A DivII state championship.

Mumford lost it's only game last season in the 1A DivI state championship game and lost their only game this year in the state championship game....2 losses in 2 years and no hardware to show for it. Mumford was the best 1A Public school in the state. Too bad they had to play a "Magnate" school that functions only as a basketball factory for Dallas ISD.

Dallas Madison upset a good Houston Yates team to win the 3A title.

Rosenberg Terry prevented Dallas Kimball from 3peating in 4A. Terry's Derek Griffin was a straight up STUD and will be playing football and basketball at the University of Miami next year...amazing athlete.

The Harrison Twins of Fort Bend Travis helped defeat South Grand Prairie in the 5A final...the Harrison twins will be taking their talents to play for Kentucky next year...maybe Calipari can stop their whining.

Overall it was a great tournament and I can't wait for my 28th trip to watch some great HS basketball.

I saw where AAA has 5 players that will be playing at D1 universities. All of 1A in the entire state has 1 player going to D1 to play ball. It's like a college team playing in 1A high school.

Mumford is the 1A state champion, as far as I'm concerned.

Ditto Shane. It was a mockery of the what the UIL should represent.

Another very cool story....Texline is in the very northwest part of the panhandle. They are a very small 1A school with a total of 14 boys in the high school. 11 of those boys were on the basketball team and those cats could hoop. They got beat in a very close game by Roxton in the semifinals, who isn't much bigger. When it takes nearly 80% of your total young men just to field your team and you go all the way to the big dance...that's impressive.

My brother in law is the girls coach at texline. Of course they were all there, and very disappointed.
Curt i know we've mentioned it before, but i grew up in nazareth. If you've been to all those finals games, you've seen my wife, 2 sister inlaws, and two brothers play on state championship teams, and one brother in law play on a silver medal team. . Of course the three years i was on varsity were the three years we didnt go play in austin. Lol!

Congrats to White Oak for back to back, they have had a great run!

Had not heard the background story of Mumford and AAA. What a shame (or sham)

Despite having daughters, I've only been to one girls state tourney so I probably missed your wife and sisters-in-law. I have, however, seen some great Nazareth teams at the boys tourney. I love 1A and 2A ball the best, and have seen some amazing talent at that level.

I was really hoping Douglass could pull it off against Roxton.

Douglass had a good team, but at one time in the final went like 5 minutes without a bucket....never fully recovered.
