    If tomorrow doesn't come.

I attended the funeral of an old friend just
    a couple of weeks ago.

We went back for a little over forty years. Worked
together for over twenty of those years. We shared
the same work ethics and standards. We played on
the same softball team forever. We were fight fans
back when boxing was still boxing and we had the
    greats to admire and follow.

He went fast. Pneumonia. It began with the flu and he
refused to go to the doctor - he didn't like 'em, called them
all quacks. Within two weeks the oxygen supply to his brain
diminished to the point that he was delirious. His wife got him
    to the hospital.

Too late. Two day later he was forever dead.

We had not seen each other in a couple of years. But we
did talk often - at least once a month or so. I had called him
about a month before I was notified of his death. We talked
for the better part of an hour - about a multitude of things.
I distinctly remember saying just before we closed; I said,
"You know that I love you Jack". He replied, "I love you too,
    Bud".

I'm at peace with it all. We got the chance to say it before
it was too late to say it.

I'm an old man now. From childhood to date - all my closest,
most intimate male friends are gone. All but three. Only four
    of us are still standing.

    If tomorrow doesn't come...
I'm going to be certain that that they know how I feel about them.

There is a point to this thread.

Powerful post, Bob. I have known the feeling of losing someone without ever telling them what they've meant to me. It really sticks with you, and magnifies the grief. Good reminder that our time in this world is brief and we must cling to those important things...

Sorry for your loss - Life is too short not to tell the ones that you love how important they are.

              Thanks for the reminder

Sorry for your loss Bob. I had two best friends in High School. I lost one to MD in 2011 and the other to a massive stroke in 2012. Hard to believe I'm the one left.
