    Blue Heeler pups

Well it's looking like we maybe getting a blue Heeler mix pup. Now if I start trying to train him to trail asap will he make for a good blood trail dog or will I be wasting my time with him since its more of a cow dog than a hunting dog

My Heeler was a great trail dog, bird retriever, watch dog, and all around companion. All dogs have the ability to do what you train them to do. Some are just better than others.

Heelers are awesome dogs and you can train them to do pretty much anything you want. My heeler us the smartest dog I have ever owned. Great friend and will get doves all day long. Even retrieved a beaver that I shot in our pond.

Don't let the idea of it being a cattle dog keep you from trying. I have an Aussie, and while she great on stock, she makes a heck of a retriever and tracker. She tracked her 1st deer at 4 months, and I would have lost it without her. She'll go after anything in the water...With her, it was all about making it fun and using positive reinforcement. Good luck with your new pup!

I posted a thread a couple of days ago about my new heeler pup Charlie. She is 3 months old. I've put her on 2 trails to start training her. The first was 10 yds the second was 30. She did great! I dragged a piece of deer dkull with antlers and hide. I'll try starting her on blood tomorrow.
                    Check out texas blood trackers.
