Which workout to try with bad knee

One year ago today I had ACL surgery. My knee is not 100% and probably never will be but it's pretty good. I've gained about 20 pounds while not being able to do much. I'm ready to lose it but don't think my knee can handle Insanity or P90X. Any other workout suggestions? It's about 20 miles to the closet gym so it's not real convenient to go there daily.

Eating right is the key. I've lost about 15 pounds in February just eating healthy and less portions. I also started taking some all natural supplements that really took it off fast.

Bicycle would be my suggestion and I would also suggest a Total Gym as it to me is the best thing you can do for every muscle you have as it not only works you out but stretches at the same time. Will do wonders for your spine, joints, etc. and your body weight with the bike or the total gym can be offset till you lose a few lbs.

flexings sitting on a chair using some homemade cloth or canvas bag wraps filled with weights attached to your leg brother no need to go to a special gym but you`ll also need to loose the extra weight, prayers for a quick recovery.

Do you have a pool or one close by? If you did physical therapy you may have tried it before but the best thing for me was swimming and also running in shallow water.

I would stay away from Insanity, I had some pretty bothersome knee pain when I first started the program. I would definitely ease back into things, lots of stretching, maybe a bike or eliptical. Also try to develop some strength around the knee, single leg squats are really good. Buy you a exercise/yoga ball from walmart for $10 and do some wall squats. These will help with the mobility and help gain strength in the knee and surrounding muscles. Dont overdo it, but dont be afraid to test it out. you will start to gain more confidence the more you do.

I have a bad knee as well. If you want to be outdoors, get a bike and ride it. It is zero impact on the knee. I rode from Houston to SA on mine long before I had me knee fixed and it was no problem or pain. If you want to exercise indoors get an elliptical machine. Same thing as a bike, zero impact. Do push ups, sit ups(correctly), and pull ups. All of that will get you pretty close to where you want to be. Above all, eat a healthier diet. I lost 20 lbs slowly but surely over the past year just changing a few things in my diet. Good luck. The hardest part is getting started and staying committed the first month. There is lots of info on the Internet. Find something that interests you and get after it.

Go to the cross fit main site @ www.crossfit.com. They have all kind of videos and instructions for workouts. Also they have info on how to scale workouts to fit your ability. Lots of good information

A bike is a great deal but hard to get the heart rate up on that. Definitely need low impact exercise with that condition.

Paleo diet to help feel better and lose weight while you exercise. Less weight on the knees = happier knees.

I've been doing CrossFit the last few months after a couple of injuries (shoulder and foot) last spring messed up my workout program for a while. I started slow and have been building up strength and endurance gradually. I've made pretty good progress since October. The workouts I was doing involved a lot of running, squatting, deadlifts, and other leg punishment. I would come home with sore knees a lot at first. I've noticed that as my leg strength AND flexibility has increased, I don't have sore knees very often anymore. Obviously, coming off of knee surgery, you'd need to start slow. But work on strength and flexibility as much as you can.

I have both blown out and I can 90% of P90X I just sit out on the couple sets I can't do. No pivoting for me and there is a couple thing on there that require it.
