True. I replaced parquet flooring in our kitchen some years back with tile, and found a couple of distinct low spots after the old stuff was all ripped out. And I knew it was there because, as you say, I hated walking on that particular spot. It was easy to level it out and (if I do say so myself) the travertine tile looks great. I would imagine this is MUCH more important to check for with wood flooring, though.

I'm in the business also and a I have to say is, if they're charging $1.00 per ft. For labor, they're making their money on something else. I refuse to crawl around on the floor for $1.00 per ft.
Also, if the laminate has pad attached to the back, you don't need the other pad.
That is where some of their labor is being made up.

The normal price for install is $1.99 but they are running a special for Pergo & Armstrong install at $.99. You're saying with the pad, moisture barrier is not needed?

A moisture barrier is needed just not more padding.

Don't buy the quarter round. Have the crew undercut your baseboards. It makes the finished job look 1000x better.

With some products you still need a moisture/vapor barrier even win a pad as the pad attached has no moisture stopping properties.

Laminate flooring that lays down on roll out very thin padding/moisture barrier. Doesn't glue down. Floats.
