    Mercury outboard impeller

Anyone in the Austin area have experience changing these? South Austin Marine wants about $300.00 and the kit is only $50.00.

Buy the kit and do it yourself. I have done it on my yamaha 150 and it was surprisingly easy. google it and you should find some help on where it is located and then you will know what bolts to take off to access the impeller. Just make sure that the drive shaft is aligned when you put it back together.

If I can do it, you can too!!

My line that spits the water would always get clogged with a small rock or pebble. I would check the line first where it spits out to see if it is clogged.

I once changed the impeller and it was a stupid little rock clogging the outflow.

I have the Mercury 150 and change mine myself. It's fairly simple, just go on youtube and search for it. Some great videos showing how to do it.

Thanks, I checked the spit line yesterday. It seemed to be clear but I still don't have water coming out. The impeller has not been changed in two years and the boat sits a lot so the impeller is my guess. Did I overlook anything?

get a coat hanger and shove it down the rubber hose to check for dirt dobbers! I always get dirt dobbers in my line, and its a simple fix.

Get the kit and do it yourself. It took me all of 15 minutes to change the impeller on my 50 Merc. The manufacture's recommendation is to change the impeller every two years I believe. I know mine seems to loose pressure after about two years. There are some good videos on YouTube that show good detail on how it's done. Good luck!
