    Martin Dies, Jr. State Park

Anybody been there recently? Gonna take my daughter camping there on spring break. She likes to play wildlife photographer while I paddle the boat around. Looks like there are some decent paddle trails there. I just hope it lives up to the pics and video on the park website.

It's a nice park, We duck hunt there...its a little weeded over but there are creeks you can paddle down. I also heard they were dropping the lake to work on the dam, you might want to check on that. I see people canoe there all the time.

lots of good photo ops,, keep your eyes open for copperheads they have always been thick in and around that park,,, you should be able to see some gators too, most of them only up to about 6 feet,, but there are some a lot larger...
if you will get with me before you actually go i will tell you about a few good places

I grew up there, hunting, swimming, fishing you name it. Haven't been there in a few years though. Good luck and can't wait to see some of the photos.

Great park! Grew up going camping there a lot. I hunt a couple miles away. If they are dropping the water down to work on the dam, I would check in to that. Might be a good opportunity to go arrowhead hunting with the daughter

Thanks for the info folks. I'm really excited about the trip. At 13, she is pretty much at the other end of the communication spectrum from me these days. Fortunately we still have hunting and fishing. Been too long though. Here she is paddling one of my home-built boats up at Stubblefield. I don't think we have been on the water in almost 2 years now

my daughter was always on the other end of the spectrum of communication with me,, until she got married,, somebody flipped on a light switch we talk all the time now and she actually tells her kids that gramps is cool and knows lots of stuff!!
actually thanked me for being hard, that started when she saw friends hurt and messed up wrecks drugs and anything else.....

be the father, it pays well in the end!!

I live bout 20 minutes from there great park. We plan on camping for a weekend either march 8-10 or 15-17. Should be lots of wildlife moving around about that time. Not sure on them dropping the lake level I'll have to check on that.

This was on the corps website as an answer to lake levels and dam repair.

Town Bluff Project - February 2013

                      - NOTICE OF LAKE DRAWDOWN Beginning February 11 the lake will be drawn down to an elevation of 78.0' by February 18. This is to allow repair work on February 19-20. Weather permitting, the lake will begin filling up again on February 22. Please use caution while boating as areas will be shallow and more hazards likely.

                      - The winter lake level deviation, which results in the lake being lowered 1.0', will begin November 1 and last till March 31. Please use caution while boating to avoid hidden hazards and shallow areas.

                      - All parks are open (except camping loop of Campers Cove).

                      - Herbicide spraying for control of nuisance aquatic vegetation have ended for the growing season; results are very encouraging and previously inaccessible areas at the lake are now beginning to open up. Plans are to resume spraying next April.

For the most current closure information, click http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/drought/drought.htm

Great, now I'm gonna be up all night

I'm getting stoked about the trip. Gonna turn off emails and just have my phone there for the camera and in case of emergency. I need some good campfire time with my kid!

I know exactly where that spot is on Stubblefield where she is in the canoe. Grew up fishing up there. Never caught much but my dad loved it up there.
