    Natchitoches, LA-Things to do?

The wife and I are going to go spend the weekend in Natchitoches next weekend. We are staying in a B & B on Cane River Lake. Anybody got any good places to eat or things to see there?

The Landing is a great restaurant. Make sure to try some of the plantation tours. Kisatchie National forest is not too far and it is beautiful this time of year.

I do not know what there is to do there but I sure would appreciate it if you would PM me when you find out. I was planning a trip there around the 15th of March. A little get away with the wife type thing. So, if you like the B&B your in and if you find interesting things to do I sure would like that info when you get back

Thanks, Snipe. I am studying Plantations to visit right now. That was a must for the wife.
flywise, I will pass along recommendations for you. I will get the B & B from the wife when she wakes up. I looks awesome, has a screened in porch with a jacuzzi on the edge of the lake/river. I will keep you posted.

Make sure to have a drink at Antoons while you are there. Mr. Johnny is the owner and a great guy. Also, go through the drive through beverage barn and get a Tom Collins or a Fuzzy Navel. The have 20 different flavors

Will be following this one. My wife has always wanted to do Natchitoches for the Christmas Parade.

Melrose Plantation is a neat one to visit because of its history post slavery. The Alligator Park is neat but I'm not sure if they are open yet. You have to take a few hours to browse the shops along Front Street, especially Kaffe Friedrich's (sp?) Hardware Store. You can also take a horse carriage tour of the downtown area that highlights the historic homes in the downtown area. The Landing has an awesome Sunday Brunch, Mariner's is a great place for a nice dinner, Lasyone's has the best meat pies but Meaurci Beaucoup has the best bread pudding and there is a guy that sells Cracklins out of a trailer that are pretty dang good (The Crackling Man).

My mother in law grew up there and still owns her father's house there that is within walking distance of the downtown/Front Street and I've going there at least once a year for the last 8 years or so, usually during the Christmas Festival for the lights and fireworks. There are probably a couple other threads besides the one you are studying about Natchitoches too.

Look for the Drunk Monk, you'll know who I'm talking about when you see him. Oh and buy him a drink and you will prob be in one of the most intellectual converstaion you have had in a long time. We went to Christmas evevent 2 years ago and had a good time. Also check out the general store and the fried pies.

Slide on up to Caney Lake and hire you a bass fishing guide! This time of year they catch some GIANT bass out of that lake!

SAMs place and mamas are supposed to have real good seafood. Maggio's is a drive thru Daiquiri shack and they have awesome frozen adult beverages to go.
