    Pac Boots

I have been researching buying some new boots for the upcoming year. I am looking at boots by Meindl and by Lowa. In any case, I keep finding boots called "Pac Boots". Any of you guys know what that means? Is there a specific function that these boots provide other than warmth in extreme cold weather? Why are the called "Pac Boots"? What makes them different than any other cold weather boot?

I am just trying to find some insight on this?

I think the generic term "Pac boot" may have something to do with the fact that they are two piece boots...mine have a removable felt liner about 5/8" thick...

BTW, the whole point of the removable liner is so you can take them out and dry them well and also have extras...when I was hunting in minus 40 degree weather in Saskatchewan I would take spare liners and swap them out every night so they would be COMPLETELY dry when I put them in. The guys that didn't take spare liners were miserable, because the moisture left over in the liner/boot from the day before would immediately freeze the next morning and they would sit there with ice in their boots all day.

Out of curiosity, which Pac boots do you use/have?

Mine are from Cabelas. They probably don't make that specific model anymore but they have rubber bottoms and 10" leather laceup tops. Giant clunky things, but waterproof and really really warm. You just have no idea how cold minus 40 can be if you haven't been there. They are also great for hunting down here when it gets really cold, wet, and humid.

I have looked at the Schnees Pac Boots, but I just can't see doing anything in weather that cold except sitting inside in front of a fireplace.

            Anyway, thanks for the information!

The Schnee's are really nice if you have a need for them. I think also the term pac boot also means the lower half is completely water proof, ie rubber.

When I lived in Michigan, pac boots were standard equipment. They were basically leather boots with rubber soles and a removeable, insulated insert. The inserts could be pulled out and put next to the fireplace to dry. I usually kept extra inserts so I wouldn't have to wait for the wet ones to dry. I could sit out on the lake and ice fish all day without my feet getting cold, and my favorite brand has always been Sorel. When I moved to Texas I brought a pair with me and they've been sitting in the barn for the past ten years. I guess I'll have them handy in case I get the chance to go ice fishing again.

I wear a "pac" boot when it's cold, Basicly they're the cheap ol' camo pac boot at Academy. I've got about 8 pair as I buy a pair every year when they put them on sale. LOL If it's too cold for my snake boots, I wear the pacs.

I got a cheap pair from Michigan a few years ago (rubber bottoms, felt insert). Down here they work good if it's real cold and your stand hunting. Carry them so as not get them sweaty while walking and put them on in the stand. I've had mine about 10 yrs and never wore them. Usually forget them and just grin and bare it...
Last season when it got into the teens in Young Co., I had shot deer the evenings before so I slept in!!

I first got a pair of pac boots 30 years ago when I drove a forklift all day in a freezer warehouse.

                      They had steel toes.

I never knew what their name was till I went hunting up north.

We just called em freezer boots.
