It defiantley sounds like Honda is the best, but unfortunately I dont have funds. I am going to buy a boat this coming week, that is already set up with lights. The boat has 7 lights mounted on the front that are are pulling around 3500 watts now, but I want to add a few more in the back.

I will add, if you are buying a generator I would go ahead and get a gen/welder combo. It only cost a little more, and you get twice as much. Honda is by far the best, but you can get a new Hobart for about 1,000.00.

If you are already running 3500 watts of lights, you will want a 5000watt generator. They make a 350 ultra Halogen that will compare to the 500's at less watts. Lights on the back? OK.

When I typed lights on the back of the boat I ment having lights further back like in the middle of the boat, so the driver can also see while driving or even have somebody stand in the back of the boat and still be able to have a good time.

Texag93 gave good advice. You don't want to run your Gen right up to the max wattage. It will run louder and not last near as long if it's always ran at a full load. Also, if you can't afford a big Gen right now, consider switching to 250-300 watt lights. They are cheap. Although they are not quite as bright as 500's, they don't create near the back glare on the water either. That can be a huge advantage when fishing off-color water.
