Sure there are other fish but they are nowhere near as consistant. If you book a trip during fed season you are pretty much assured a limit of these fine eating fishies.....in about an hour of fishing. Then you have plenty of time to target the others.
You sound like a lazy fisherman.

And they rank low in terms of table fair. Tuna, wahoo, dorado, swordfish, grouper, mako, all higher regarded as table fair.

My dream is to be able to make it out far enough to chase these consistantly

After reading that article, it makes me an even bigger fan of people like Sam Houston. Shows what kind of leaders and forward thinking men this country use to be ran by. It's a shame leaders like that are no longer in politics

National Marine fishery comes up with these rules so they can keep there jobs. Dealt with it for years in commercial fishing.

Oh please. What do you know about offshore fishing. Have you ever even been close to saltwater??

Let me know if you need a bait man.

Heard about this on your show Cable, you know what happens when the Feds get involved managing state stuff... it never turns out for the good of the sportsman or the species being managed.

Not sure where your rankings came from but they are pretty high on most peoples lists I know. Lazy fishermen troll so I guess that's me. Get the box full of snapper , drink beer and troll.

                      This.

I remember ~15 years ago going out with my whole family on a party boat, half of us (and the boat) getting sick, me not being able to catch a fish to save my life at the age of 12. My dad decided he was going to catch the limit of snapper for 10 people. Could have kept going, but his arms got tired.

That sucks, I love off shore fishing. I want to go after the tunas consistently one day. Use to catch a few here and there chasing shrimp boats. It seems in the last few years since we first started going, the regulations have made it to where you can keep less and less fish. Caught several 4-6' sharks this trip and had to throw them back. I remember years back we could atleast keep 1 silky. Last march we went for a bachelor party and pulled these two black groupers up. 63 and 69 lbs....

doesnt sound lazy to me. you sound like an elitist *** with that statement. You know as well as i do to be able to consistently chase the pelagics its not only a big time commitment but also a big money commitment. Snaps are easy for people w/o the time and money and still allows them to get out there and enjoy the gulf. Its all a bunch of BS, the Feds couldn't tell their *** from a hole in the wall and have alot of flawed science and statistics. As much as you think your gods gift to offshore fishing you don't and cannot speak for everyone when it comes to regulations and what they wan't to catch....Snapper are not low on the table fare list either, thats why the whole issue exists, people like eating them

I love me some big government, I will be glad when the day comes where they call and wake me up in the mornings and prepare my bath and my breakfast and pick me up to carry me to work. Oh, wait a minute, I just remembered, I won't have to work either, because they will take care of all my needs.

It's paradise I tell, pure paradise!

                                "lazy"....I don't know about that.

Burnt Orange my be a little suspect in his choice of college football, ha...but I have no problem jerking some snaps off the ocean floor and then trolling. Some of my favorites are catching snapper and then trolling for ling and chicken dolphin. Find a floating grass bed and throw some spoons or spec rigs on light tack and you are in for a fight!

BTW, Snapper is one of my favorite eating fish.
