I have a 36v golf cart and would like to boost the speed and torque without spending more than the cart is worth. What is the cheapest way to boost performance and how much $$$?
You can get cable kits for around 100-150 bucks depending on size. Typically 4 gauge. You can also make them yourself with 2 gauge for the same price if you have the right tools. If you don't have a crimper then you can solder them as well...just takes time.
It allows more power to pass through at any given time...also keeps from overheating cables on longer runs. It's the first upgrade any cart should have done. Doing so will give you more torque and create a foundation for future upgrades.
Not that much...without know what type of cart you have it will be hard to move you towards your next possible upgrade.
If you have a controller cart I would next look into a new controller assuming everything is still stock. Other than a possible speed chip (model and make dependent) All of your future upgrades are going to sting...
You can gain a bit of speed going with bigger tires but that will require a lift..this upgrade will take away some torque.
How I have done all my upgrades is as follows:
I always convert my 36volt to 48 in this order:
cables
plum quick motor swap (this will get the max out of a motor in my opinion)
hd f/r switch
hd 48volt solenoid
lift and tire package
hd leaf springs
shocks
controller
brakes
accessories (lights, radio & misc creature features)
You have to remember that these cart's can get fast and tough quick so please take precaution as you start to upgrade...break them in slow and check and retighten screws and bolts.
I bought a new high torque motor, controller, and new cables a couple years ago for mine and it made tons of difference. Think I spent about $1500 though..
You can get a upgraded motor for $250-300, hd solenoid $40-80, controller $350-750...
With a lift and tires already in place the big ticket items left (if everything else is stock) would be a new controller and upgraded motor everything else will be less than $100 p/item on average. You can always buy used or remanufactured.
