I see. My girl is getting old and I want to find someone who she can be with and learn from her. Just HATE the house training phase. Never will I go through that again!

Price will depend on pedigree, age and where they are at in training.
A young dog with a decent pedigree and through basics will probably run you around $3,000.

Started includes a lot of things obd,ff and in some cases breeding of the dog. I've sold started dogs from 3-5 thou finished dogs goes on up there. If you know the trainer and they way he trains it could be a deal or a dud that's an unknown factor in the price. Will you get to work the dog on your own on and off collar? That's the best way to tell what your getting into! Best answer I can give you at this point.

Some trainers also sell finished dogs that have a problem with their eyes, hips or elbows these you can get after nuter/spayed from 5-8 so if breeding one is not important it the best way to go .

You should be able to get a started dog that is steady, can do multiple retrieves, and can handle fairly well for $2,500 to $4,000. If you need some help finding one, let me know.

And you don't want a dog that has problems with it's eyes, hips or elbows, no matter how cheap you can get them.

Mud shark this is where it gets murky I agree if eyes, hips or elbows are bad don't buy those but if hips and elbows are fair and eyes have been checked by an optomoligist (spelling) but the owner of the dog wants a better rating of the same they will sale their dogs it wasn't what They were looking for. Dogs with those serious defects and more are usually given away or put down. I know I had a 3000 dollar pup that had muscular myopathy that I spayed and gave away and one of my best named Star should prolapse her uterus and she is still going strong as a hunter. A reputable breeder or trainer will always disclose issues that they know about just been my experience and way never lie or cheat a customer reputations can be broken or made.

I agree be sure what you are getting into with a started dog. I have seen some that people got rid of them because they were not easily progressing from where they are at,
