    Neighbor gotta Pitbull!!!!!!

I was so happy to see my neighbor behind me got a full grown pitbull. Even better he has it held in by a 4 foot tall fence. I know I will hear from the people who say they are great dogs and so loyal, never had a problem with them. Yea right, some of these dogs act OK but for the most part these dogs are very protective and react to things differently then other dogs.loyal to thier family and protective of them only. For example; ( kids running around screaming and hollering, tackling each other, fighting and even crying. I was in the backyard with the kids on the trampolene(sp?) when this dog came to the fence putting on one hell of a show. Barking and growling and never took his eyes off me and the kids. This one looks like he is ready to drop in a fight, all muscled up and its bark is almost silent, like it can't bark at full volume?. I am not a pitbull hater just when someone drops one on the other side of my little fence it get my attention! Lots of attention!! My backyard was one place I felt my KIDS where SAFE, now I don't at all!! I have no trouble taking care of this problem if he comes to my side of the fence, no problem at all, but what if I am not home or cant get there quick enough, my kid gets attacked in my own yard. I can't have that! I need to go talk to these people and see if they are even aware of the potental problem. Any suggestions??

Keep a 12 GA loaded with #1 or # 4 buckshot by the back door.

Some cities & town have ordinances barring pit pulls & bulldogs.

Speak with yoru neighbor and ask him to keep said dog on a strong chain inside his yard.

My suggestion is to put up a higher barrier between you and your neighbor. Might avoid future problems.

Please, sorry Tink, do not ask your neighbor to put him on a chain, that will only make it worse as far as aggressiveness. We have an ordinance here against chaining an animal in a yard. Believe me it will make the animal worse, and if is does get loose it could be very bad.

Start at city hall. Lots of towns have outlawed them lately.
Even if not outlawed, may be rules about fence size for certian breeds.

Be sure to check daily for holes that it may dig under the fence. Maybe the neighbor will understand your point for yalls safety and put up a hot wire at the bottom of the fence on his side. Good luck and hope all goes well.

I agree with you D12 I I own and know several other people that have owned pits, and from the behaviuor your describing that is a dangrous dog whether he's a pit or not. Personally I would have a zero tolerance if the dog was outside the fence. sss. I have seen a few like the one you're describing and I wouldn't take any chance at all, and I would make my family aware, and to stay well away.

You can talk w/your neighbor, but I bet your concerns fall on deaf ears. Hopefully not, but more than likely. Personally, I have no problem w/the breed. My sister-n-law raises and sells them all over the USA.

I think Mudslinger had a good suggestion w/the higher barrier. 8-12' cedar fencing really enhances the backyard anyway.

                Good luck to you.

This is going to turn into the ban pits, I hate pits thread before long and all he ask was for suggestions to avoid future problems. If there is an ordinance against pits then it should be enforced. I would be suprised if there is a ordinance concerning fence height.

I agree with Tink on the strong chain. I own a few Pitbulls and I realize what I have there. I keep them on strong chains. I have seen 30# Pitbulls clear 6 foot fences so I wouldnt trust that barrier you have. Check with your animal control they may have a leash law that would apply and that would keep you from having to seem un-neighborly. If they dont it may take a talk with them to resolve your problem. The thing is that these dogs are not for everyone to own. They require alot of responsibility and some folks may need a little help realizing that. They may also need a reminder that they can be criminaly charged for any actions there dog does.

Tink, I was not talking about the ordinace that Lubbock has against chaining dogs in a yard, I was just talking about not chaining one, especially an agressive and active breed such as pits. Studies have shown that chaining an agressive, protective, very active breed of dog will only enhance the aggressive and protective behavior and I don't think that is what this dog needs.

Also, Tink I recieved your address and I will try and get the bows and accessories shipped to you ASAP.

Strong & High fences build good neignbors

Ask neighbor to slpit cost of fence with you.

                          8 foot or better.

I not looking for a pitbull bashing party but I do have a problem with one and need some advice. Thanks for the responces so far. Tink I like the 12 GA idea but then I would have to worry about my 7 yr old shooting his older brother. Hopefully not but they fight bad. These dogs have a time and a place, just not in my backyard going after one of my kids. I guess if my kids are in the house I could go to the fence and see if he comes over then deal with him my way.
