    Taxi's I need some help

Just shot my first aoudad. I am definitely getting it mounted. I have caped it out already and the cape is in the freezer. Now what I need help with is I don't have the money right now to go drop it off at a taxi and I need to hold the cape and horns til I do. What do I need to do with the skull/horns? They re separate from the cape right now but what do I do with them? The skull still has some meat and brains and all that stuff. Should I boil it? What if the horns come loose? I really could use some help. I really don't want to do anything to mess this up an I figure the best ones to know would be taxidermists. Thanks for the help.

Do not boil! Cut the skull plate off the skull and remove as much brain and meat as possible. Put in a black trash bag with a little water and seal tight. Put in sun for a for days and the horns will come off the sheath. Or just leave in freezer

      Who caped it out?

Keep both frozen and take them in at the same time.
If you leave the head out, it's gonna start rotting and it WILL stink.
If you boil it yourself, you'll discolor the horns and they won't look like they did when you shot it.

If you don't have room for both, talk to your taxidermist and explain your situation. Most will work with you on payments.

Jason is correct. Just don't get none on you when you pull um or momma won't let you back in the house!!!!

Go to walmart and buy a box of 20 mule team borax and once you pull them pour Some on skull plate and horn cores. Cut your cores off to about 4-5" in length. Pour a little borax into each horn and slip them back onto threre core. Your horns will shrink to fit core. This will dry them out.

Your taxidermist will pull them back off and attach the for good.

Thanks for all the info guys! I think I'm gonna make room in the freezer and hold til I find a taxi. I really don't wanna mess it up.
