My father-in-law retired inn September. This is something he wants to do, so I'll tell him about this thread. Were a lot closer to Oklahoma and Arkansas than Llano, though. Wonder if he can pan for gold there?

There is a little around Llano and inks lake and enchanted rock because there used to be a lot of quartz. Last time I was around there on a geology trip we found a few speckles nothing too big but I'm sure there is a lot more under it that's washed down with erosion. All the places I went were on private property but worth going out. Look up on usgs and look and quartz rich soil in Texas and you can go anywhere public and try to find some. I ran into a lot of people trying. Just be sure it's real cause there are deposits of pyrite out there too...

Not in Texas but my uncle and I went down to New Mexico for a month and lived out of a tent in the mountains. He found some I just went along for the adventure, lots of fun. If you want to get into it look up the GPAA gold prospectors association of America they have clams everywhere. My uncle still goes to Alaska every year to hunt gold.

I looked on the gpaa but it looks like most of their stuff is a long ways away out of state. I would like to get the family out somewhere in Texas for a few days

I heard "All the gold in California is in a bank in middle of Beverly Hills in somebody's else's name".

Where the gold in Texas is I have no clue!
