If it's really the flu and not a cold or bacterial sinus infection, I don't believe so.

When you start running a fairly high temp, your whole body aches like you worked out hard three days ago or like someone beat the crap out of you and you are burning up in fever but have uncontrollable chills..... I haven't found any remedy that helps. Tamiflu sounds like the real deal if you catch it soon enough.

The last time I had the flu was after Hurricane Rita and all the medical staff was gone out of the area for a couple of days and the emergency hospitals had not been set up yet. The typical cold remedies didn't feel like they were helping at all although maybe it would have been worse without them.

I was sick last week with an upper respiratory bacteria infection and called in sick for the first time in three years. Fortunately it was not influenza. Four days and I was good to go without the high fever, aches and chills. Just a light temp, burning chest and congestion in the chest and nose. Not fun but I wouldn't trade it for the flu.

I think I lucked out. I had a slight cold towards the end of December that only lasted a couple days... no big deal. Right after that my entire household, plus my sister's family, all came down with the flu over the next 3-4 weeks. They blamed me, but I wasn't laid up moaning and groaning like they were for a week straight, so I don't think I had it.
