UPDATE: Nikon customer service

After getting an email from Nikon and posting earlier about gettting shafted by them saying I would owe $118 for repairs for a $199 Coolpix camera and me replying calling that a crock of BS and a racket, I am getting a "one time" repair at no charge. I appreciate them doing this but i still will probably not buy another Nikon as this camera was bought only a couple of months ago and should have been under warranty. They said the camera had been dropped and this voided the warranty. I never dropped it and the camera was never borrowed.

I've heard their CS leaves a lot to be desired with rifle scopes and binos too.

Leupold for rifles and bino's is EXCELLENT!
Only if they made cameras could they help you out.
At least your getting a fix for free

Their CS is why I own and shoot with Canon. Same thing as you, I had a coolpix point and shoot go to junk, and they wouldn't warranty it, plus they were somewhat rude. Since then, I've purchased 2 point and shoots, and two DSLR cameras + multiple lenses; All Canon!

I have several Cannon products. I dropped a camera that was a few years old and out of warranty. I mailed it to them for repairs. They said they would call with a repair quote asap. Well after two weeks of waiting I called only to be told my camera was fixed and in route back to me. No charge. I will only use Cannon Cameras now.
