    Taxidermy question.

I have a pintail drake ( my first duck) and I am wanting to get it mounted. Do they usually take a year to get done and is $250 a fair price for a local taxidermist to do it? He would want $100 up front. I'm the only bread winner for a family of 4 so dropping that much bread is hard for me to do. Thanks in advance.

My guy in San Antonio charges 150. He does an awesome job but it takes about 6 months to get them back.

Please don't skimp on a bird mount. I pay $250 for mine and wait 9-12 months for return. I am completely satisfied with his work.

$250 and a year is a pretty good deal on a duck mount. I understand your money situation. Talk to the guy and see about paying a little at a time. Chances are it's going to sit in his freezer for a few months before he even starts on it.

Go visit the shop. You have to decide if the quality is worth the money and wait. I'm sure payments would be a viable option if you liked what you saw there. DO yourself a favor and go visit several taxidermists!

Bout normal for a good taxy. Bird mounts are easy to screw up and that's what happens with alot of the cheap guys and they don't take there time. Money and patience shows in bird mounts.

Mine worked with me for my first mount. I took a widgeon pair in and thought I only wrapped the drake up. My brother and a buddy poked and prodded to just get both of them done, as that was my initial intention. I wasn't going to do it, as I only took enough cabbage for one deposit. Then she said, we'll work with you on the balance. Thats when I quit fighting.

My brother is a taxidermist, the price is a fair and competitive. 12 month turnaround is also very common, sounds like he is being honest. I wouldn't hesitate.
