    Comal County Bucks?

Got invited on a hunt in Comal County this weekend. Does anyone hunt out there - if so , what's an average score I should be looking for before I let it fly? Just want a good representation of the area so I'll know what to look for and not wait till it's too late and come up empty handed!

Also, anyone know when the rut usually is in Comal County?

THE RUT IS GOIN' ON NOW!......last week at a friend of mine's shop they had a 140 class 12 pointer chasing does through the parking lot!....As far as quality of the deer go, most of the bucks I have seen or heard about are 8's and 10's with 16-22 inch spreads....not monsters but fairly nice deer.....although there is an occaisional big 'un.......for the past few weeks activity around feeders has been pretty slow, but with the recent cold weather it has picked up.

100-120 is average depending on the ranch.

Remember you got antler restrictions east of IH-35 there.

              yep

Yep, that's me, how's it been everyone. Had a baby 5 months ago and it's kept my web surfing/hunting at bay a bit but I'm back in the saddle!

Lot's of changes since last time I was on...got ordained as a minister - church is going right downhill now!

Got a nice 8pt with the bow second week of bow season but no photos - I've learned to leave my camera in the bag!!

Leona's been slow hunting this year, not the antler restricitions (which we are very greatful for) but much lower numbers in the deer heards it seems - maybe because of the rise of coyotes.....anyone seen the same problem in that area?

              Good to be back TBH!!

Primary rut in comal county at least where I hunt is over and saw activity from mid to the last week of November then a tapering of activity. The younger bucks are all hanging together now and the larger showing up at night. The does are also all grouped together as well. I'll see occasional sparring between the younger bucks but nothing major as I saw during the primary activity. The second rut should start around the end of this week (approx. 28 days post primary rut activity) and last about 5 days if you subscribe to that philosophy for those doesy's that didn't get bred. I'm still able to grunt and call bucks in as my 12 yo old daughter put a 8 point down as a result of calling in a group of younger bucks to the feeder this past saturday, but they are in groups and don't come in with the he-man attitude but only curious. I guess I'll see about the second-rut scenario since I'll be sitting in the stand Saturday a.m. and Sunday p.m.

Sippy..I have a cell phone pic..but am illiterate in transferring it to the forum.

Small eight point 20 yard heart shot. What impressed me is that she was going to use her AR with 62 grain Federal Fusion and double tap, but at crunch time she wanted to use my 30.06 which was with us to assure a clean kill in her mind as she was battling parallax with the AR's scope and didn't feel comfortable taking the shot. She handled the recoil better than I thought she would but made a beautiful clean shot. I'll email the pic to myself, store it on stick, and I guess try to upload it that way.
