I skyped with the wife just now and she told me that Tonka was taken to the vet. When she got back home after work last night the babysitter said that his collar looks tight and he was puking some. She went to the garage and saw him with a big ole swolen face.
We still haven't found a country vet where we lived so she went to a 24/7 vet in the Stone Oak area. Seems like the vet hasn't seen very many snake bites because they were thinking a tumor or mutiple tumors. My wife is a RN and said this happened that day and she didn't think there was a cancer or tumor that would blow up like that in one day...
Anyway, he's doped up on steriods and antibodies back home and taking it easy. He wasn't crying or anything. He was being really calm and just laying down. I've had numerous dogs while growing up, but this was the first dog for my wife so you can only imagine how she was freaking out.
She said that the sun was out yesterday at the house so I'm guessing he stumbled across a rattler or copperhead. The city vet ran all these tests for a "tumor" and it ran around $300 and will take 2 weeks to get the results. We just need to find a good country vet that can recognize a snake bite when they see one...
Tonka is getting some sleep and I hope the swelling should be down in the morning. Poor guy.
