    Snake bit...

I skyped with the wife just now and she told me that Tonka was taken to the vet. When she got back home after work last night the babysitter said that his collar looks tight and he was puking some. She went to the garage and saw him with a big ole swolen face.

We still haven't found a country vet where we lived so she went to a 24/7 vet in the Stone Oak area. Seems like the vet hasn't seen very many snake bites because they were thinking a tumor or mutiple tumors. My wife is a RN and said this happened that day and she didn't think there was a cancer or tumor that would blow up like that in one day...

Anyway, he's doped up on steriods and antibodies back home and taking it easy. He wasn't crying or anything. He was being really calm and just laying down. I've had numerous dogs while growing up, but this was the first dog for my wife so you can only imagine how she was freaking out.

She said that the sun was out yesterday at the house so I'm guessing he stumbled across a rattler or copperhead. The city vet ran all these tests for a "tumor" and it ran around $300 and will take 2 weeks to get the results. We just need to find a good country vet that can recognize a snake bite when they see one...

Tonka is getting some sleep and I hope the swelling should be down in the morning. Poor guy.

Poor pup. I had a dog that got bit by a rattler and her head swelled up about like that also. Praying for a speedy recovery.

Nothing worse than seeing kids or pets in pain.
          Hope he feels better soon.

Poor guy. We've had several get popped by copperheads over the years. Haven't lost any but I'm always amazed at how calm the dogs are afterwards. We certainly freak more than they do. Great name for your pup, by the way.

That happened to our dog a few months ago. He's always messing with snakes... The vet gave him a shot and the swelling went down pretty quick afterwards. Hope yours gets well soon!

So if there is a next time for him being snake bit will he have a resistance to it and not have a reaction so bad? Makes me want to buy a few dozen king snakes and let em loose at the house. Can you even do that?
