    Drop tine

The land owner of my lease took this pic on
    2/28/08 from his ranch house.
The next day the deer had shed the left side
The good thing about this is my bow blind is 1/2 mile
    from his ranch house.

    Come on archery season

Nice. How close can you move to that spot. If he stays there much longer, I'd look for him to be there come Sept/Oct. I'd move as close as I legally could under the lease agreement and start feeding, putting up a blind as soon as I knew he'd stayed.

For the end of February, he's in really good shape. I wouldn't worry about him making it. Spring green is here. He doesn't look that old to me. Definately not "over the hill". I bet he's got another good year in him. Get him some protein, no matter the rain in your area, and watch him grow. If you're south and west of San Antonio, it could be a tough year for all the deer.

Pretty buck and would love a drop tine...but doesnt Dr. Kroll and just about all else say they are hit and miss. Just cause they have it doesnt mean they will have it next season. Not to be negative?

Doesn't look that old to me. This late in the year they all look that beat up.

Some deer get them as they get older and get more trash. However, I've seen more deer that have them when they're younger keep them through their life, or most of their life.

We had a deer that we called DT. Obvious what the DT stood for. He had a drop tine every year for about 5 years. He was shot at about 10 1/2 and that was the only year that he DID NOT have a DT.

We have a buck on the Junco called Doctor Pepper. He's had double drops every year except this one. This year, he had one long drop and an itty bitty drop. He'll be 6 1/2 next year.

We have a little buck that we call Traveler. He had a small drop last year as a 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 yo. This year, it's back and a little longer. He's no older than 3 1/2.

Acorns are probably not repeatable. Drops may no be, but from what I've seen, are repeatable more often than not.

Let me guess... he moved like 4 miles and because of his drop you could recognize him??
