What's bad about these compared to a protein feed source is just about the same as with cattle. It's better for the deer to be eating a food rather than wasting time licking something. Do you lick a Popsicle til it's gone or do you feel like your not getting the most out and just go ahead and bite into it. Protein tubs in cattle are ok for this time of year but feeding range cubes are more efficient at keeping them warm rather than tubs.
That said, I've never used the tubs for deer but I would rather use pellets IMO.
