So your thumb acts as your trigger finger on the thumb release?

Yep. Love mine! I shoot a Stan Quattro. I can't imagine going back to a wrist release.

I shoot a Truball 4 finger 3d. I really like it. I shot the Truball 3 finger hunter (at least that is what I tjink it is) but just could not figure out what to do with that last finger. The 4 finger solved that. Plus on the 3 finger hunter, the trigger could accidentally be triggered while drawing. I don't think I will ever go back to a wrist release and I shoot and hunt with 70#.
I want to look at the Stan's but can not find a local dealer that has them.
Good luck in whatever you decide.

I learned to shoot with a thumb release and loved it... Can't find it or I'd still be shooting it.

Tru ball thumb release is what I shoot.I'm a better shot with it,than the wrist style index finger releases. The only problem I've ever had,was keeping up with it.Now I just keep it clipped to the string.

I still shoot my original 1980 Hotshot string release(made in rockwall). The awkward thing tied to my wrist just never felt right.

I use a Tru Ball Max 4 Pro for hunting. I love it! I can hook it to the string and leave it for when I am ready to shoot. No fumbling around in the dark to hook it up

I shoot a TruBall Boss X 3 finger. I shoot it for hunting, 3d, and spots. I got two of these releases and shooting a wrist strap does not feel right anymore to me.

I use a TruBall BossX for hunting and 3d. I shoot better groups and it just feels better than a wrist strap. Also as stated in previous post, it's nice to hook it up and leave it hanging instead of fumbling around trying to get hooked up when the time comes. My Scott wrist strap release stays in the backpack as a backup.

I switched to the Scott hand held two years ago.I like not having it on my wrist and it's just as easy to pull and hold the bow back. One plus I've noticed is my groups are tighter with it.

I am debating on getting a Carter chocolate lite 4 finger or Carter fits me too 4 finger. Which would be better for hunting and for me? I have medium size hands? Thanks.

I hunt with a Carter Chocolate Lite 3 Finger. I bought a 3 finger and a 4 finger. The 4 was just too big for me. I don't have large hands either and I just like the 3 better. I also bought 2 of them once I figured out what I liked. One lives in my hunting pack just in case I lose one. There is a hole in it that I put a piece of cord thru and keep it attached to my bow so it can't fall off when I am not in the stand. When I am in the stand it stays clipped to my D-Loop. I worked with it and practiced with a Morin trainer long before I ever started hunting with it. Learn to properly pull thru your shot with back tension and I guarantee you it will be a surprise release every time. I never move my thumb to trigger the release.

I myself am thinking of trying a handle release, however I do like the ease of of a wrist strap when drawing heavy weight. I'm looking into the Scott longhorn hex, its a hinge release attached to a wrist strap.

                              What does "back tension mean"?
