Im wanting to build out a rifle for getting into long range shooting. I have a Browning A-bolt medalion that Im thinking about using as a base rifle. Is that action going to give me acceptable accuracy. I want to pull the action and bed it into a tactical stock (mcmillian maybe) with a high quality barrel. I also have a rem 700 30-06 that I could use for a action as well. Will the Browning action be acceptable for starting???? I want to build the most accurate rifle I can afford.

What caliber is the Abolt ?
If its not a "magnum" cartridge already the bolt face will have to be opened up to acomodate the magnum case head
The 700 in 30-06 will not work b/c it has a .473" bolt face and a magnum mics .532"
Several options : sell both your guns and use $$$ towards custom build. Buy a Stiller magnum action for @ $950. Find a Rem 700 300WM or 7 mag and use it as the donor action

I'm sure the browning action is capable. I have A-bolts (one a 300) and both are sub MOA. That being said I would go with a M700 action for a custom build. There. Is just so much more stuff out their. For my latest rig I bought a used 700ADL in 7mm at a pawn shop for $395. It was rough but it didn't matter. Trued it, bought a Douglass XX , chambered it in 300 WM and turned it to .900 at the muzzle and wrapped it with a McMillian stock. I did the trigger job myself. Put a set of Badger rings/bases on it along with DD Ross bottom metal.
With Norma brass, 74gr of RL-22 and 180rg Nosler BT's I have several sub 2" 300yd groups. After carrying one for many months in some nasty places I'll take the Remy every time.

the abolt is a good action
Problem, you will find very few aftermarket stocks and not sure you will even be able to find a replacement trigger. companies just don't make aftermkt accessories for Brownings
also, not may gunsmiths have the proper tooling to true a Browning action and re-chamber. The hexagonal action is not very user friendly to gunsmiths.
in all my yrs of competitive benchrest shooting for group size or score, I have never seen a Browning abolt on the shooting line. great hunting rifles, yet difficult to accessorize with upgraded parts
