    Tips for hunting popups

Besides brushing in your blind really well:

When you're hunting a popup, DO NOT leave windows open that are opposite your shooting lanes (it doesn't matter what's behind you if you can't shoot at it) and DO NOT leave your door open when you leave the blind- this defeats ALL the hard work you did hiding your popup. Open rear windows and doors makes your popup EASY to see and there's no telling what walked through and picked off your blind when you were gone. Also, open doors are magnets for cattle to destroy your blind- they get curious and will stick their heads in, freak out and destroy the blind.

A lot of my hunters this year have made these mistakes; and have paid the price (lack of success and/or destroyed blinds) for it. So, I figured I'd point it out for those that didn't know.

another tip would be to tie off to a tree. Twice this year went out to find blind gone with the wind.

I like to have only on or two small shooting ports all other windows closed as this keeps the inside of the blind as dark as possible. Set up the blind well before the season starts if you can. Always draw your bow when you first get in the blind so you know you have clearance as you don't want to hit the blind when you draw. Leave your shooting ports just like they are when your hunting, I've seen several people close the ports when they are not in the blind and in my opinion this is a big no no because most deer will not like the new black hole(shooting port) when it wasn't there the day before.

Let me add that a 4x4 piece of carpet in the floor is a no brainer. Keeps gear clean and dry and makes pre dawn naps much more comfortable.

Here's one: When you pee in the corner don't forget to tell your buddy that sits that blind after you which corner is marshy so he doesn't sit his backpack and range finder down there.

              Hey Jimmy!

I like to brush mine in too. Snipp twigs to give clear shot.

Just be happy that it wasnt DJ or Boyd leaving some morning glory in that corner.

I actually built a wooden platform and the blind is very secure. The platform is covered in the rubber flooring we use in our weight room. Extremely quiet and comfortable.

I think that was part of my issue this year whne trying to hunt out of my popup. I should have left the windows open with just the shoot through mesh up so there wasnt a "new" black hole.

Practice working the zipper so it doesnt make a lot of noise.

black hole black hole black hole

i'm 1000% a rabid believer in blind that don't normally have black holes suddenly having one, I think it freaks the deer out.

I have a bow box blind with a window, i kept telling my bil that i felt the deer were nervous because when the window was open it was a black hole. I spray painted the outside of the window black and 100% changed the deer's attitude after a few weeks. I like the smallest shooting port possible and as little light as is also possible. I've gotten where I' have some black cloth in my back pack in the event I need to cover areas where light is coming in
