    Credit Card Apps

I own a small to medium sized construction firm. We have a client that needs to pay us via credit card. I am looking at either Square or GoPayment. Which one and Why?

He doesn't NEED to pay you with a credit card.... he WANTS to pay you with a credit card.

Be very careful with credit card processors...especially if you don't run a good volume through them as your processing fees eat into your profit quickly...!

I've got several customers that call me and want to pay for items over the phone with a credit card and usually I won't do it. The processors charge a different fee if you hand enter the credit card number.... and if your customer disputes a charge that was hand entered, it is sometimes harder to settle the dispute than if the customer presents the card to you and you swipe it through a machine.

Square is one of the easiest ways to accept credit cards. No monthly fees and just a % when you charge a card.

Lets say I was to use the Square, they charge 2.75% for each swipe, would you get upset if I added the percentage fee to you total?

It breaks the rules of the CC companies to pass on a "credit card fee" but you are allowed to charge and appropriate "convenience fee" for paying with a CC. I usually know before I bid a job if the customer plans on paying with a card and price accordingly. If it comes time for payment and my customer drops a card on me that I wasn't expecting, I charge the appropriate convenience fee

If you don't want to mess with the actual card swipe you could send an invoice through PayPal. The party making payment doesn't have to have an account.

I have the new one through Paypal and like it. Your money is available right away unlike the others and they even send you a debit card connected to your Paypal account.

I would use PayPal or square, whatever is easier for you. And I wouldn't hesitate to charge a convenience fee. No reason you should foot the bill because he wants to pay with a credit card.

Decided on the Intuit GoPayment product. Seemed like a better fit for a small business.

Have you thought if for some reason they dispute the charge your money is taken out of your account until a decision is made. I own a small construction company and would never take credit card. 2% fee on a $75,000 or $1,5000 job is crazy. Check or cash for me.

My boss just charges what it takes to cover the cc charges, but offers a "cash discount".

We are doing business with United Airlines and these projects are $10,000 or less. They pay when work is completed and they pay additional for the use of the credit card.

The phone I have doesnt work with the Square but does with the intuit. I will also set up a paypal account so that I can take deposits for hunts.

Don't forget about the back charges above the 2.75% if they use a rewards card. You have to pay for them to fly for free.
