A text you never want to get

I really don't even know why I am posting this, I guess I am trying to come to grips with the loss, maybe a vent, maybe just trying to let a little out. I got a text from the son of a guy I have known for some 35 odd years. The text said
"dad had a heart attack, we are on the way to the hospital" I was in total shock, I ask if there was anything I could do, he said he would let me know, I sat for about 15 minutes in total disbelief waiting on any news. I couldn't take it anymore so I text for an update and to tell him I was on the way, He said they were about to come in and update them, as I was headed out the door another text came through saying that he did not make it. I have hunted and fished with this guy most of my life, I was there when all of his kids were born, we have been in more than the law allows and always seemed to come out on top. Just one of the friends that no matter what time of day or night, he was just a phone call away.

I talked with his wife and found out that is was a very sudden thing, he was talking with and helping the girls with a few things when he just sat back in his chair and it was over. At first they though he was just being silly, but quickly realized this was no joke. What ever it was that took his life was very serious and something you do not come back from. His wife gave CPR until help arrived, they jumped in and took over doing all they could do but it was to little to late. He never complained about anything, and I am sure he would have confided in me had he had some kind of health issue.

I know you all know this, but the saying "you never know" has rang true for me.

God speed my friend, get it all scouted out, I will join you once again. Until then, know that you will be missed.

No loss is easy but the family will have a great supporter, that being you. A friendship lasting forever is a beautiful thing. You and the family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Prayers up. We are all just a breath away when that time comes. Sounds like a great man and he was doing what he loved at the time God called him home.

Sorry to hear it. Prayers for his family and friends.

My dad went quick like that too. One min he's picking up pecans and dumping the bucket and as he's walking across the yard to start back where he had stopped he went down in mid step. Help was there in seconds and ambulance almost as quick because it was close to the station. Dr. said he was most likely dead before he ever hit the ground. That was on a Tuesday. We had just been deer hunting together the weekend before. Never know when it's going to happen so live each day like it's your last!
