    Recommend A Good Cleaning Knife

Looking to get a decent knife.... I've cleaned 3 deer this year with my Buck folding blade and I am sick of it. I would like to get a fixed blade knife that is on the affordable side. My buddy recommended looking at Hogue, but they are more than I want to spend. I'm thinking of spending $75 or less.

Havalon Piranta if its just gutting and skinning. $40 and comes with about 8 replaceable blades. I love mine.

Gerber with a rubber handle and a gut hook in whatever size you're comfortable with.

Non slip is critical. You'll laugh at the difference between what you're currently using.

I use one to zip thru hogs. Deer should be even easier.

I made the switch after the last hog I gutted and skinned in November. We dulled 3 knives when it was said and done. I gutted and skinned my last deer with the Piranta and its still sharper than any of those 3 knives were after that hog. Takes a few seconds to change a blade on the Piranta and its CHEAP! A pack of either 10-12 replacement blades is around $7.00

How many cleanings can one blade hold up to? Deer only...

I would recommend you look at a Spyderco Bill Moran. You can usually pick them up for under 100 on line, and it is a great quality blade steel.

Bill Moran is recognized as the grandfather of American custom knifemaking and the founding father of the American Bladesmith Society. He started pounding steel, making knives more than fifty years ago. If you're lucky enough to find a custom-made Moran to...

I'd say 2 at the most. They are like long scalpels. It would probably start to get dull towards the end or halfway through the second one. It's a non issue though because you just swap the blade in a matter of seconds and BAM, razor sharp new blade is on there and time to continue.

It doesn't feel as good in your hand as a Gerber like FND mentioned (I have the same knife he's talking about, I love it), but it gets the job done better and doesn't have to be resharpened.

I use a scalpel blade and handle. You just change the blade when it is dull. Best buy in my opinion.

Swing Blade by Outdoor Edge. I absolutely HATE a gut hook, but these have a gut "blade" that works really well. Both blades are easily resharpened, and it should be around $50 or so.
