How do you Hang a Stand ??

serious question, not trying to be funny. in all my years, i've hunted either from a box, ground blind or tripod.

i got in on the wal-mart deal a couple of weeks ago and bought a lock on stand with the steps. my moms place has pigs on it and has some big trees that i assume will be great.

actually "hanging" the stand shouldn't be the issue. i am asking more on placement. is it personal preference, or is there a science to it ?

i am right handed, so, should the stand be on the right side of the tree, as in a 90 degree to the feeder / shooting area, or should it face directly ?

It depends on if you only want to shoot while sitting or will you be standing? How many shooting lanes? I have some that I never have to get up and some that I have to turn and face the tree for one lane. Personally I think more about what will keep me concealed and disguise any movement so that I don't get busted.

I always try and set my setups so that I shoot off to my left being that I'm right handed. So if your hunting a feeder just make sure the feeder is to your left.

Good thing to do is try different positions of the stand. Some like shooting sitting down some like standing. I always like to line the tree-stand at least 15 yards away to the funnel and where I get a clear broadside shot. Maybe place a target out there and see which position works best for you. Of course game usually will come in from a lot of angles, just play around with your target and practice shooting from the stand. I stand and sit during the day. I use a Millinium M-100 stand and the things so comfortable if you dont watch out you will snooze off. ha! buckle up and be safe. Over the years Ive seen some of the best tree stand guys fall. Its never pretty. Hope you the best.

Hang it in the prevailing downwind from where you want to kill them at . I use a tree that is real bushy /branchy to get that backcover around the stand you want and cut out your shot lanes accordingly. It will get wild and western for ya if your set up is in right.Good luck

here is the correct way to hang it. As far as where to hang it with lanes you will have to decide where.

I know you didn't ask but after hanging alot of stands, multiple times a year, one thing I started doing is to use one of the safety straps and a sheave to hoist the stand into position. This makes the hanging of the stand alot easier. You just have to remember to hang the sheave higher than the highest point of the stand.

I just watched that video, and it got me to thinking someone needs to invent a lightweight ground blind. lol I like hunting from up high but I hate hanging stands.

I like setting my stands where I have as little movement possible to my lanes. In your case, Feeder. I like my bow hanging between me and the feeder at about a 10 o'clock angle. Right handed
