Is it possible to ask your grandad? I will put in what little I think I know. First, I would say that little jar doesn't belong there. Second, It looks as if the balance arm needs to be moved to the right. You see those two things sticking out on either side of the of the balance arms? I think they need to rest on something and will act as the fulcrum for balancing the arm. I say that because I believe the far left end of that arm needs to line up with the white numbers over on that upright piece on the left side. Once you get that figured out, I would think it's just a matter of zeroing out the balance arm, and putting in the amount of powder you want. I would think youtube would have a number of videos showing how to use this better than what I could explain on here. I hope others will speak up and correct anything I said that's out of line, as well as giving additional information.

Well I found it on the web and someone had it set up correctly. You were right on some things. However the jar is full of a light oil and the little paddle arm goes in there and it acts as a baffle. It makes it really smooth actually. I used it just a while ago and weighed a bullet that was supposed to be 120 grains. It was dead on. I'm pumped. Thanks for your reply.
