Man I need some help. I just paid the 140 to the state but I was under the impression that you would find out if you could get the chl before you had to pay for the class now I find out its gonna cost about 300 before they even do the back ground check well here goes I have no felonys but wasn't always a good boy when I was younger so I have a small rap sheet with class c charges and a resisting arrest class a 6 years ago I have bought several guns so I can pass that. I guess my guestion is how strict are they

300?
the 140 is non refundable, and the class is gonna be non refundable. will you find out before you take the class? no. I didnt.
I guess I the 300 is for the 140 for the government? and 160 for the class and prints etc? I paid I think 75 to the government (because I am a vet) and the class was 10 dollars for veterans (the one I took)...
as for strict? I cant tell you.
I am prior military with a top secret sci clearence. one arrest and that was for a speeding ticket that I appeared for but 2 years later it some how showed back up and I was released and charges dropped that morning when my wife brought the proof/reciepts etc... (she has a ticket folder in the cabinet for me)
more than likely I would think you would have nothing to worry about. BUT, I dont know what all and how much is on your record and how recent...
good luck to ya...Last edited by Redneck Archer; 01-06-2013, 12:39 PM.

$140 to state is all you pay them and is non-refundable. You have to take class and submit all of your "packet" which is certificate etc. and should not cost anywhere near $300. Fingerprints are done electronically and you should have scheduled that on DPS site as well, fee at fingerprint places was not that bad, but don't recall exact price

The prints are $9.95 and that is set by the state. You can not be charged any more than that.

It's 140 to the state 10 for the prints and 120 for the course plus rounds I just meant you have to get everything done before they even tell you that you can even get the chl I'm probably just worried for nothing but this is a perfect example for all the kids out there that don't think doing stupid stuff when your younger wont come back and bite you. And yes everything I did I take ownership of and I was an idiot

I would definitely read through the eligibility part of the penal code, and recheck since you said there was a dwi plus resisting arrest. Being over 5 years, you may be ok, but I can't remember the elapsed time requirements for arrests before you're good to go.

There might be some time restrictions/relief periods in there but merely being able to purchase a weapon is different than the requirements or restrictions for a CHL.
