Well, Ricky (RJK70), the way you shoot, you need as many trips out there as you can get, so start saving your money! Just kidding, everyone, we're on the same lease.

For those of us that have ton's of Oak trees, the price of corn may not matter again this year. I bougth 1,000 lbs. of corn and 600 lbs. of protein at the beginning of bow season. Still have about 35% left. Normally, those bags would'nt have lasted 3 months.

FYI lubianski grain in St Hedwig has corn for 6.00 a 50# bag and the bag i got this morning was pretty dang clean.

I hunt about 1.5 hrs from the house in Jack county. I'm out there an average 3 out of 4 weekends during the off season and almost every weekend during deer season. I don't plan on changing anything right now. I'm also getting 40# corn from academy (sorry Dale) with a 15% discount since my son works there. I told him that he will have to get a pallet before he quits this summer and heads to A & M.

That would be bizarre...oh well....more time in Kansas would solve that! Food plots everywhere....just find a trail or two!

With everything going up there is a decision each person has to make. I am still looking for a lease. There is more to it than MONEY. You have to have a balance from your work and any hobby you enjoy cannot be limited to money. If it makes me happy, then I will find a way.
Anyone with any leads on a lease, do not hesitate to pass the info on...

I don't lease, but I am not gonna quit feeding twice a day everyday. My company pays for about 90% of the gas I use and hunting is my way of relaxing. Of course I only have to walk the back door to hit the woods I hunt in. I was gonna feed protein this year, but the price of protein is way too high. I have decent bucks in the hill country and plenty of does and the occasional hog that come through my place.

One thing that is going to help out is that another good buddy ended up joining this year. That makes me and two other guys that live close and can car pool. Will be nice splitting the gas 3 ways.

We all have crew cab trucks too except on guy, Kevin (Sgtau44)!

Several of you have said it, the cost of a lease is going up, but our insanity is worth far more than gas and corn costs. Fortunately for me, my lease is only 65 miles away, a great group of guys who all go together to wipe away the extra costs. Wouldn't give my lease up for nothing!

I'll just have to get a second job because I'm not going to stop hunting.I would go crazy if I had to stay home. My wife would have to put me in a nut house.

I'm semiretired, and bowhunting is what I do. I have the opportunity to work however much I want, so I can work an extra day to pay for my stuff. I spend a lot on my lease to kill deer that I can kill off the Junco for basicly the price of gas. For what I spend on my lease on just protein, corn, and lease cost, I could kill a 160 class off the Junco. However, on our lease, we make our decisions on what to kill and what to let walk and how we run it. That's a big part. That would be an option though, if it gets downright rediculous. We have 8 members and as long as they want to keep the lease, I'll stay. Besides, it would just be Dog, my brothers, and I on the Junco. Mailman could only go with me and hunt what I told him he could hunt. The rest would not have access. So, we'll keep the lease.

I told the deer last week that they needed to make the protein last. I wasn't going to spend much more than 326 dollars every 6 weeks. If my feeders are empty this next visit, I may switch to Angelo Pellets to slow them down. If it gets really bad, I'll get Lissey/Eckles and that will bring them down to earth.

If I were you I would consider buying something like this to get you to the lease. I get 34 miles per gallon and can go out as often as I want and a round trip costs me 25 bucks instead of 100. It's an '01 and I has a little damage to it, but it does the job I bought it for.
