Frying a turkey/propane tank longevity

How long would you expect a propane tank to last using it at turkey frying capacity?

I got a fresh tank on Thanksgiving and fried a turkey...whole process was probably 1 hour and 45 minutes burn time.

It feels like I have about half the tank left. I'm assuming I could fry another turkey today on the same tank....though, I fear I might be cutting it close.


Thoughts?

I would bet you can get about 5 hrs burn time on a tank that seems to be about what i get maybe a little more

I can usually fry 3 12-14lb turkeys on one tank.

Sounds like I'm in the ballpark then.

Should take 30-45 minutes for my oil to heat up, then 45-60 for the bird.

I think I fried about 6hr on one tank this thanksgiving. I saw somewhere they were supposed to be good for 8 hr run time. I dunno though. Get some warm water and pour it down the side and see if you can tell where the propane stops

Had the tank on for exactly 90 minutes. Picking it up, I can't tell that It's any lighter. Must've been more in there than I thought

They do make a gauge for them, but I don't know how accurate they are.

You can also stand on your bathroom scale with it and weigh it....

Fried 2 on Thanksgiving with 1/3 of a tank.

Just fyi...

Over Easter I fried a Turkey and used my digital scale to weigh the tank before and after. Burn time was about 1 1/2 hrs. I used 2# of propane.

The tare weight on the tank is 18# and it holds 15# of propane making 33# for a full tank.
