    Gobblers and Broadheads

Thought I had it figgerd out 100gr vortex thru the goodie and go get him. but last year I climed out of my double bull 360 and found pile of feathers, bloody arrow and no turkey 3 differnt times. got really discussded waited for a going away back shot. down he went, but cut most of his beard off with broadhead. not crazy about head loppers because I shoot through screen. on the bright side ended up with 3 beard tom 10.5,7.5 5.5 #1 non/typ TGR.Any body know of better head than a vortex for gobblers?

I think the vortex should be fine. A tip I picked up around here a few years ago (from tuthdoc, I think) was to shoot them through the hips on a broadside shot. I've shot 5-6 gobblers that way since then with 100% recovery. They won't be able to run and if they can't run they can't fly.

That makes good sence. Last year I had to use my blood dog to find one. dident know if he would trail it ,but he did,had a few tail feathers pulled out but at least found him.

Like other animals, shot placement is key. Big difference with turkey is that it is sometimes much harder to visualize exactly where the vitals are and sometimes just as had to locate the hip joint. Lots of study of them walking in front of you will make it easier.

I use the same broadhead I do for deer. Shot placement is the key.

Thanks for the pointers. Its just amazing that some were shot right on the dot and still got away.

I use Sidewinders and Hammerheads and first cut 3 blade expandables. However, my favorite traumatizer of turkey organs is the Hammerhead. Of deer organs also. Well, it's just my favorite traumatizer.

Trailboss told me the same thing at BAO and dropped 2 turkeys in their tracks. Using Muzzy MX-4

I think I stole these pics from Trailboss or someone, I can't take all the credit. Just helping when I can.

Any broadhead through the drumsticks will work. I usually shoot Spitfires, played with Guillotine heads a little last year. Might try the 2-blade Rage this year.
