Duck hunter question - first time using Black Cloud

I had a gift card so I splurged! Headed out with JJ Kent in the morning and want to know if I need to change my choke. I usually shoot through an improved cylinder, but have heard the Black Cloud shells shoot better through different chokes. Any wisdom from the green screen?

not sure about what choke to use but there where a ton of ducks loaded up at JJ's place this morning when i came by.

    Good Luck!

Black cloud have a "flight control wad" which basically means you dont want to use a wad stripping choke. If it is the stock IC choke that came with your gun you should be fine.

keep your chokes that your gun came with in....BC does make different chokes but you can't just go buy a regular say "kicks" choke.....my buddy was doing that for a long time, i tried telling him the wads were different and eventually he was going to have a mishap. it finally happened he was shooting curveballs....he couldnt figure the deal out why he was missing so much, well we tried to have him shoot one on the water to see where he was shooting....5 feet left maybe more, wad was getting hung up or something. might want to switch out to your original modified

Depends how high the ducks fly, I usually shoot Mod. for everything

jcl-that's good news! Thanks guys. I don't have anything aftermarket, was just wondering if I should tighten or loosen up. If anything I was thinking about going more open. Sounds like I might just stick with what I've got.

Get you a few feed sacks and pattern a few chokes before you go out.

I recommend patterning any new combo. Sure you "waste" a shell...but better than wasting a box of shells and having a bad outing. IC on decoying birds is deadly....with black clouds they are twice as dead

I've shot cases of BC through a Comp-N-Choke from Skeet, IC, Lt. Mod, and Mod all with awesome patterns.

This year I bought a case of BC's, Kent faststeel, and had a box of the new RIO blue steel given to me. BLue Steel has performed amazing!!! at $10 a box cheaper. The fast steel is great too...but having a ton of problems with the brass expanding too much and sticking...in everything from a 870 to a $2100 berretta 0/u....will be my last case of kent. Had save issue with Fiochi a few years back, awesome load....brass couldn't handle it.

Those kents have been like that forever, its cheap thin brass and expands too much and the lip tears.....other than that they are great for a single shot

IMO, its called black cloud due to the dirty powder it uses.....

Never, and I mean never have I had more fouling than after a hunt with black cloud

Get a black cloud choke. I shoot it with a regular choke and havent had a problem but my goose guides were telling me horror stories with pics to prove it. Wads are getting hung and splitting barrels.
