Was checking craigslist for something unrelated and there was a listing for them. I guess I always thought they were like a grenade without the mess (shrapnel).

In my opinion, no..... maybe.

It goes by the Penal Code definition and the difference because causing an undue alarm and a device that is intended to cause a distraction by the same means.

The Penal Code says (among other things) an explosive device that is designed, made or adapted to cause such a loud report that it causes undue alarm or terror to the public. A flash bang is definitely made to cause such a loud report that it causes or can cause undue alarm or terror. The issue is how you look at, was the device made for, designed or adapted for that purpose and what it "the public"? It is made to cause just such a loud report on the people it is delivered to. Is that "the public" or is that a specific target and is there a difference?

I am thinking that I would not want to test the waters if it was me. I think that it might very well be a losing proposition to own one.

Considering they are regulated by the ATF and jail time is recommended for people that violate storing procedures I think it is safe to say no. LE and military only sorry. . . .

I have no desire to own one, just surprised to see listed on craigslist and pic looked like the real thing if they appear similar to a smoke cannister.

the guy says it's good for "training, airsoft, or personal defense"... If this thing is legit, then he should be getting a knock on his door from someone with a badge. But a youtube video of someone tossing one of those little babies into a room full of airsoft kids would be absolutely epic!!!

No expert so I can't tell if that's a real one or an airsoft one but I know they sell airsoft flashbangs at several places.

With all the hoopla from all the black gun nuts (781 friggin threads a day on this BOWHUNTING web site alone) and the rush to buy up everything you can get your hands on, I'm not surprised to see a listing like this. Some dumbass will try to buy it and when he does he'll get popped and probably make the local news.
