    Hog Doggers........

I know there are more than a few on here that run dogs. Have the chance to pick up a started bay/catch dog (caught 2 hogs in 8 mins a couple days ago).

Question is this............ how many run vests on your dogs? We all know it gets hotter than the hinges of ....... here, BUT, would still like to protect the dog.

IF, you run vests, collars, leg guards, etc. Post up brands, where you get 'em....

Run a vest all the time if you care for the dog, in the summertime keep the best off and in an ice chest if possible just throw it on when you get a bay. Best vests in my opinion come from p and p...

My uncle puts vests on his catch dogs I know of and maybe his real good bay dogs. If they are just try-outs I don't think he does. He doesn't hunt in the dead heat summer either because of the temp.

You planning on just running one dog? If u use him alone to find and catch he may get a little heated with a vest and even beat up. May Need more than one dog to find and catch dogs. If I was going to use one dog it would be a find and loos baying dog so you can sneak in and finish off with a rifle.

Eventually I will have more of my own. But for the time being he will continue to work with the pack he is coming from.

They have their advantage and disadvantage. My opinion is depends on how the dog hunts and what type of terrain. Long range/short range, strait catch or just rough. I personally lost more dogs to heat than to a hog. Dogs can take a pretty good whoppin and be ready to hunt a couple days later. There are alot of varibles and basicslly boils down to what makes you feel comfortable. Sounds like you will need to carry a first aid kit for sure.

Here is where I ordered most of my gear.

Lost my favorite dog at the end of summer to a heat stroke and decided to take a break.

A bit rangey, bay/catch, South Texas, thick brush at times with some open terrain.

First Aid kit will be close at all times. Complete with staple guns and sutchers
