My buddy just clogged up his system because he was not running a filter. It was an odd oily liquid and a dang mess.

He is going filter from now on. Funny thing was I told him he needed a filter but he ignored me..

It says its inside safe but should I play it safe and turn it off before I go to sleep?
I believe they have an auto shut off if carbon monoxide is detected. I have two, and plan to use them in my pop up camper next week in New Mexico. Snow is forecasted there and I'm going to be cold!

Those green bottles can get expensive and they won't last all night. I'm taking plenty of gas in 20 lb tanks.

We did in an old 30' RV for 3 or 4 years , I had it set on the stove with nothing flammable around it. I always left one window cracked for ventilation. This thing would keep the camper warm when it was in the teens outside. We use to use the Dear Born gas heaters in grandparents house for decades, but always had 2 windows cracked open a small bit.

Yes you need a filter. I ran mine 2 yrs on a 20 lb bottle before plugging it up. Called Mr Buddy and they told me you do not need a filter for the small 1 lb bottles but the big bottles have oily residue that will plug up the gas orifice and it did. So they sent me new orifice and filter, operates perfectly on a 20lb bottle now. Just a matter of time if you don't have a filter.

Yes, get the filter. My first filter clogged up before one full season...

You you need a filter. Propane is clean and oderless but comercial bottles are required to have an oderant in them and it can evertually clog up the system.

Filter is the safest route. You may get by without one and run clean gas thru it for a long time and that first time you get gas that's not just right you'll wish you had a filter.
