    Gun Safe Issue/Tips/HELP!!!

I have a Winchester gun safe that I bought from my uncle this summer. He bought it brand new from Sam's Club and it has the manual combination lock. It is at least 10 years old and the safe is just hard to get into. I have used similar safes a lot at work over the years and never have problems opening them.
It takes me 3 or 4 tries on most occasions to gain entry into my safe.
I was wondering if any of yall have had similar problems with this brand or any other brand of safe and if you have any tips or tricks to help with opening the safe.
    Combo goes something like this......

    left 4x stopping on #
    right3x stopping on #
    left 2x stopping on #
    right past 0 to #
    open

Sometimes if I wiggle the dial just right it seems like all of a sudden it will just open.......other times after 3 or 4 times I just have to walk away!!
Maybe I'm not clearing it out right or something...IDK????

Good thing is the kids and thieves aint gonna get in it easily!!
    Thanks in advance!!

Not cool at all. Maybe have a locksmith look at it and see if they could "tune" it??

I have that very same safe I believe. It's green right? Never had any problems with mine, however if I don't clear it real good (i.e. lots of spinning) it will act grumpy and won't unlock the next time. Good luck to you!

I would get the tumbler changed out before it takes a dump on you and you are locked out

          Yes!!

I had 2 of the locks replaced on my Winchester safe in less than 2 years. took me over 30 minutes to get in it the final time.

I finally got fed up and replaced it with an amsec digital lock. Much happier now.

My FIL has one of these. You have to hold your mouth just right to get into it. Pain in the rear.

You can push in while doing the combo. It helps also try the combo by changing one number by 1 or 2

                Until its easier to open.

I had a safe that did the same thing, one day I couldn't get it to open. Called a locksmith to come out and get it open turns out the mechanism was really dirty and wasn't allowing the tumbler to fall in place. He told me that was a pretty common thing

When I had a difficult time getting into my safe the locksmith had me alter the second number +/- one digit. This worked and I quickly had the lock serviced before being locked out.

Is your lock vertical up or down? (which direction does the lock bolt throw when locked?) When is the last time you changed the combo? If it is real stiff when you enter the change key to change the combo, then your disc cams are bad. Send me a PM if you have more issues. I build safes.......(occupation)

Tag for later. Our ranch safe(bought from bass pro many years ago and don't know the model) does the exact thing. We don't have the instructions on how to even change the combo if we wanted to. It has acted up enough that your wrist gets tired spinning the dial. Can you replace the dial with a key pad on any safe?

I have a "Redhead" from BPS, think they are the same as Browning. I have issues, but my wife can come over and open it on the first try. I think I try to spin it too quickly and don't always get the right number of turns down.
